I made this in early July after getting the ST.
Pipe insulation works as a partial fix to keep stuff from sliding under the back seat, though it could still end up under the trunk floor...I need to find or make something else to fit between the floor and the seat when the floor is in the lower position like in the photo....
pretty simple idea! well done!
I beginning to wonder what you guys put in your hatch that's so small that it will slide under the seat or floor? How about trying to put small items in a bag, box, plastic container, or some type of storage thing? The only danger of something sliding under there is if you had some grocery bags back there and one of the bags dumped something out on the ride home and it slid under there. If you're worried about that, tie up the bag. I don't think anything small enough to fit in the hole there should be loose in the hatch anyway, but I guess I'm the only one that looks at it that way...
In a perfect world, putting everything into bags might solve the problem.
However, my world is imperfect, and tied bags come undone or rip, or any of a hundred other scenarios can happen. I like Blutos idea. Simple & cheap.
Now we only need to worry about that large grab hole in the floor.
Bluto, what size did you use? I have some made for 3/4 copper pipe, but it's not nearly large enough.
What a great idea. I know I am in the minority, but I really like the higher floor with the storage below. Very useful for my canvas grocery bags and my soft-sided dog crate.
I don't think many people actually dislike the higher floor option, we're just sniveling about the shortcomings of the floor when it's in the lower position.
Yea I get that. It's not up to the finished quality of the rest of the car when in the lower position with the BIG gap at the back.
+1. I like the idea of the dual position floor but I dislike the look of the body color sound deadening showing when you have the floor in the lower position. The pipe insulation job solves the visual issue and looks clean while doing it. Personally I think a carpet solution would be ideal yet harder to make it look stock.
I wonder if the cargo liner from the regular fiesta will fit in the ST, it has a raised lip.
Probably not unless you took out the plastic pegs that hold the floor at the high level.
Ford has a cargo area protector made for the ST at: http://accessories.ford.com/liner-luggage-compartment-10671.html
But in their photo, I can't see the forward cargo floor supports so I have to assume that they're showing the upper position...
Based on that picture of it, it doesn't look like it'd fit. Looks more like an S or SE that doesn't have dual height.
Most likely. Ford offers an ST rear tray that looks like it has a smaller lip that is made for the dual height floor, but no idea if it will still work in the lower position.
I have ordered the ST Cargo Mat however it has not shipped yet.
Please take pics and post em as soon as you get it!
I love everything about this car... If I wanted luxury and comfort I would have bought a Mercedes or something lol this car is everything I hoped for and more. I am going to order the cargo mat before winter please post if the fit is good and pics.
In for pic's of the cargo mat installed in someone's car...
I'd probably pick one up if it works for the lower setting.
I have the ST mats already, just waiting for the car. It's just a styrofoam like material with the ST logo in the middle. Nothing special IMO.
I'd rather not waste $100 on a big piece of rubber. I can deal with that gap lol
